Krix Cyclonix 18

The finest home cinemas are remembered not only for what is seen on the screen, but for the effortless authority with which they reproduce the lowest octaves of every soundtrack. True cinematic bass is not simply loud. It is controlled, dynamic and capable of reproducing the physical scale intended by the filmmakers without overwhelming the remainder of the sound system. The Krix Cyclonix 18 has been engineered to provide this foundation, delivering reference-grade low-frequency reproduction for dedicated home cinema environments.

Developed around a custom 455 mm (18″) high-output driver, the Cyclonix 18 combines exceptional sensitivity with substantial power handling to reproduce the Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel with remarkable accuracy and authority. Every engineering decision, from the driver assembly and motor structure to the enclosure alignment and proprietary internal bracing, has been made to preserve transient accuracy, minimise distortion and maintain consistent performance under sustained high-output conditions.

Unlike conventional consumer subwoofers designed primarily for domestic listening levels, the Cyclonix 18 has been developed using the engineering principles employed in professional cinema loudspeaker systems. Its high acoustic output capability allows larger dedicated cinema rooms to reproduce the full dynamic range of modern movie soundtracks while maintaining the control and composure expected from a reference-quality low-frequency system.

The rigid bass reflex enclosure incorporates the proprietary Krix X-Bracing system, an asymmetrical internal bracing design developed to increase structural rigidity, suppress internal standing waves and reduce enclosure vibration. Together with the optimised driver cooling system and professional DSP integration, these technologies enable the Cyclonix 18 to deliver accurate, repeatable low-frequency performance throughout extended listening sessions.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the Cyclonix 18 reflects more than fifty years of Krix loudspeaker engineering dedicated to reproducing movie soundtracks exactly as filmmakers intended. Engineered to integrate seamlessly with the complete Krix home cinema loudspeaker range, it provides the low-frequency foundation for professionally designed cinema systems where performance, reliability and engineering excellence are paramount.

Designed for High Output Cinema Bass

The Krix Cyclonix 18 is a high-performance passive subwoofer developed for dedicated home cinema systems requiring substantial low-frequency output, extended bass response and high dynamic capability. Its 100 dB sensitivity and large-format driver allow it to reproduce demanding Low Frequency Effects with greater efficiency than smaller subwoofer systems. Developed specifically for reference-level home cinema reproduction, the Cyclonix 18 provides the acoustic headroom required to reproduce the full scale and dynamics of modern motion picture soundtracks.

With an in-room operating range extending from 25 Hz to 200 Hz, the Cyclonix 18 provides the acoustic output required for larger private cinemas and installations operating at elevated playback levels. The design maintains controlled low-frequency reproduction during sustained soundtrack passages where significant driver displacement and amplifier power are required. Its combination of high sensitivity, robust driver construction and carefully engineered enclosure design enables the subwoofer to maintain consistent performance under prolonged high-output operating conditions.

Large Format 455 mm Driver

The Cyclonix 18 uses a custom 455 mm (18″) paper-cone driver incorporating a 100 mm (4″) edge-wound copper voice coil, dual spider assembly and vented magnet structure. The dual spider system provides additional mechanical control over the moving assembly during high-excursion operation.

An optimised cooling system promotes rapid heat transfer from the voice coil and motor structure, reducing thermal power compression during sustained high-output programme material. The large cone area and controlled suspension system allow the driver to move substantial volumes of air while maintaining stability and low distortion.

Dual Front-Vented Enclosure

The Cyclonix 18 employs a dual front-vented bass reflex enclosure tuned to achieve high acoustic output from the 455 mm driver. Positioning both vents on the front of the enclosure supports installation behind acoustically transparent screens or against walls without obstructing the airflow required by the reflex system.

The enclosure incorporates the proprietary Krix X-Bracing system to increase structural rigidity and reduce panel resonance. Proprietary Krix rubber feet provide additional acoustic isolation from hard and soft floor surfaces, helping limit the mechanical transfer of enclosure vibration into the supporting structure.

Engineered DSP Integration

To achieve maximum performance, the Krix Cyclonix 18 requires a suitable DSP amplifier capable of delivering the power, protection and low-frequency control required for high-output cinema reproduction. The subwoofer may be connected to the LFE output of a compatible AV processor or receiver through the selected amplifier and processing system.

Correct DSP configuration maintains controlled driver excursion, manages thermal loading and supports accurate integration with the main loudspeaker system. Krix recommends a 20 Hz high-pass filter with a 24 dB-per-octave Butterworth response together with a 1,000 Watt limiter into 8 Ohms.

Multiple Subwoofer Deployment

The high sensitivity and output capability of the Cyclonix 18 make it suitable for multiple subwoofer systems in larger dedicated cinemas. When locations are selected through acoustic modelling or in-room measurement, multiple units provide greater flexibility in managing low-frequency response across several seating positions.

Distributing the required acoustic output between multiple enclosures increases available system headroom and reduces the excursion required from each driver for a given playback level. The final performance remains dependent on room geometry, subwoofer placement, DSP configuration and measured system calibration.

Integration with Krix Home Cinema Systems

The Cyclonix 18 is designed to operate as the low-frequency component of a complete Krix home cinema system. Its output capability allows it to support the full Krix dedicated cinema loudspeaker range in installations where substantial bass capacity and extended system headroom are required.

Appropriate amplifier selection, DSP processing, bass management and acoustic calibration are required to align the Cyclonix 18 with the main loudspeakers and the completed room.
