Krix Megacyclonix

There are moments in every great film when the soundtrack moves beyond what is heard and becomes something that is physically experienced. The lowest frequencies create scale, tension and realism that cannot be reproduced by conventional loudspeakers alone. The Krix Megacyclonix has been engineered to reproduce these frequencies with exceptional authority, providing the low-frequency foundation demanded by the world’s finest dedicated home cinemas.

Developed for the largest private cinemas and premium screening environments, the Megacyclonix combines two high-excursion 455 mm (18″) bass drivers within a heavily engineered enclosure to deliver extraordinary acoustic output while maintaining exceptional control and accuracy. Rather than relying on excessive electronic enhancement, its performance is achieved through efficient loudspeaker engineering, allowing modern movie soundtracks to be reproduced with the dynamics and realism intended by their creators.

Every major component has been engineered for sustained reference-level operation. Dual 100 mm edge-wound copper voice coils, vented magnetic circuits, double spider assemblies and an optimised cooling system work together to minimise thermal power compression while maintaining linear driver performance under the demanding conditions encountered during modern cinema playback.

The dual front-vented bass reflex enclosure incorporates the proprietary Krix X-Bracing system, an asymmetrical internal bracing design developed to increase structural rigidity, suppress internal standing waves and reduce enclosure resonance. Combined with carefully tuned vent alignment and acoustic isolation feet, the enclosure provides the stable mechanical platform required for accurate, repeatable low-frequency reproduction at extreme sound pressure levels.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the Megacyclonix represents more than fifty years of Krix loudspeaker engineering dedicated to reproducing movie soundtracks exactly as filmmakers intended. Engineered to integrate seamlessly with the complete Krix home cinema loudspeaker range, it provides the ultimate low-frequency foundation for professionally designed home cinemas where uncompromising performance is the primary objective.

Reference Level Low Frequency Performance

The Krix Megacyclonix has been engineered for dedicated home cinema installations requiring exceptional low-frequency output, extended bass response and substantial dynamic headroom. Developed for the largest private cinemas, its dual-driver configuration is capable of reproducing the full Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel with the authority and control demanded by modern cinema soundtracks.

With a maximum output capability of 133 dB and an in-room operating range extending from 20 Hz to 250 Hz, the Megacyclonix provides the acoustic capacity required for reference-level playback in large listening environments while maintaining accurate low-frequency reproduction throughout its operating bandwidth.

Dual 18 Inch Driver Assembly

The Megacyclonix incorporates two custom 455 mm (18″) low-frequency drivers, each featuring a 100 mm (4″) edge-wound copper voice coil, high-temperature Kapton former, dual spider suspension system and optimised cooling arrangement. These components have been engineered to withstand the substantial mechanical and thermal loads encountered during sustained high-output cinema operation.

Operating as a matched pair, the drivers move significantly greater air than a single-driver system while maintaining controlled excursion and low distortion. The dual-driver configuration increases acoustic output capability, improves dynamic headroom and distributes the mechanical and thermal workload across both transducers.

Rigid Dual Bass Reflex Enclosure

The Megacyclonix employs a dual front-vented bass reflex enclosure engineered to maximise acoustic efficiency while maintaining controlled driver operation across its operating bandwidth. The enclosure volume and vent alignment have been optimised to support high-output operation while preserving transient accuracy and low-frequency control.

The enclosure incorporates the proprietary Krix X-Bracing system. This asymmetrical internal bracing increases structural rigidity, suppresses internal standing waves and reduces panel vibration, helping minimise enclosure colouration while ensuring reproduced bass is determined by the loudspeaker system rather than the enclosure.

Engineered DSP Integration

To achieve maximum performance, the Krix Megacyclonix requires a suitable DSP amplifier capable of delivering the power, protection and low-frequency control required for reference-level cinema reproduction.

Correct DSP configuration allows the Megacyclonix to maintain controlled driver excursion, optimise transient response and deliver clean, consistent low-frequency performance during demanding soundtrack passages and sustained high-output operation. Krix recommends appropriate high-pass filtering, limiter protection and system alignment to achieve optimum performance and long-term reliability.

Multiple Subwoofer Deployment

Although a single Megacyclonix provides substantial acoustic output, larger dedicated cinema rooms may benefit from multiple subwoofer installations. Appropriate placement, combined with measured DSP optimisation, provides greater flexibility in achieving consistent low-frequency performance across multiple seating positions.

Multiple subwoofers also increase available system headroom by distributing the required acoustic output between enclosures. The final low-frequency performance remains dependent on room geometry, subwoofer placement, DSP configuration and measured system calibration.

Part of a Complete Krix Home Cinema System

The Megacyclonix has been engineered to integrate seamlessly with the complete Krix home cinema loudspeaker range. Its output capability makes it suitable for the largest dedicated private cinemas where substantial low-frequency capacity and system headroom are required to complement high-performance screen, surround and height loudspeakers.

When correctly configured using appropriate bass management, DSP processing and acoustic calibration, the Megacyclonix integrates naturally with the main loudspeaker system to provide accurate and consistent low-frequency reproduction. Visit the CDA ProAV showroom to experience Krix cinema bass and discover how the Megacyclonix can be integrated into a professionally designed home cinema.

Megacyclonix Passive Subwoofer
